Highlights on Medium

I love Medium.

It is an amazing source of knowledge and insights on the internet.

Very thoughtfully the creators of Medium have provided the functionality to highlight important and useful stuff in its articles.

However, once you have read an article and if you want to refer to the stuff you highlighted, there is no easy way to do it.

While browsing Medium, we often felt that it would be great to have an easy way to collect all those highlights in once place — something like one can get with Kindle highlights and notes.

So we created a simple Chrome extension that does exactly that.

Meet My Notes on Medium.

Using it is simple.

First, install it from the Chrome Webstore. It’s icon will appear in your Chrome browser. Please authenticate yourself with Google and give the permission to the Chrome Extension so that it can send email.

Having set up the extension, you are now ready to use it.

On Medium, read and highlight articles like you usually do.

Then after you have finished reading and highlighted an article, just click on the icon (a yellowish M), a window will open with all your highlights neatly arranged in an email message.

By default the email address in the to: field is yours, but you can change it if you want. Click ‘Send’ and the email is sent!

Since the extension uses the Gmail API to send email, the emails you send also appear in your “Sent” list inside Gmail.

That’s it!

Our idea was to create a useful extension that was simple, free and fast.

Let us know if we succeeded. :-)

P.S.: We ask people to authenticate because we use the Gmail API to send the email. We have no way of reading or tracking what you send because the extension communicates straight with Google. We are not involved in the transmission of the email in any way. However, if you have any doubts you can write to us at mynotesformedium@learningconcepts.in and we will be happy to answer!
